After practicing Friday at Hickory Motor Speedway (HMS), the team was very happy with Justin and the car. The weather was hot and sunny, and we thought we were going to have that same weather for Saturday. However, Mother Nature decided to hang around at HMS until 7 p.m. that evening. Due to the lengthy rain delay, officials at HMS decided there would be no additional practice and no qualifying. The cars lined up by points. This was a huge disappointment since we are unable to run at HMS every week and Justin would be lined up in the rear of the field. Starting in the back, for the first lap and a half, Justin was boxed in with two other cars. Unfortunately, this allowed the front of the field to get a good head start. Running in the 9th position, Justin concentrated on making up some distance on the track. Just as he caught up to the cars running 4th through 8th, the 4th place car spun in turn 4 bringing out the first yellow. Justin made the most of this next restart and quickly moved into the 4th position. The 2nd and 3rd place cars were battling side by side with Justin close behind. Justin was challenged for the 4th place spot but was able to hold onto it. Justin crossed the finish line in 4th right on the bumper of the 3rd place car. Overall, very disappointed that we were not able to qualify but a very solid run for Justin gaining even more experience running in traffic. With the limited amount of races run this season, Justin has consistently been able to finish up front. We have one more race scheduled and are actively seeking Partners to help with costs for the Fall Classic being held at HMS on 9/28. This will be a 100-lap race for the Limited Late Models.
